PC Pro recommended - logo
PC Pro Magazine have given our Y-cam Black SD wireless IP camera a “PC PRO Recommended” Award.

It starts “The Y-cam Black SD is a compact network camera that’ll stand guard over your home or business. It doesn’t swivel or zoom[...], but it has a decent 53-degree horizontal field of vision, and with its sturdy metal bracket you can mount it at any angle you choose”.

The review continues with how easy to use the camera is, and how our online web-console for controlling settings is “slick and usable”.

Reporter Darien Graham-Smith sums up that “the Y-cam Black SD is a breeze to use, and produces clean footage. It isn’t the most advanced, but for day and night surveillance it works brilliantly.”

The UK’s ComputerActive magazine has reviewed the Y-cam Black SD. In the review they say:

“Many of the ones we have looked at, though, have been expensive and hard to set up. At almost £200, the Y-Cam Black SD is still expensive but it is easy to use. Like most network cameras, the Y-Cam Black SD is primarily intended as a security device for monitoring a home or office when you are away, or perhaps just for keeping an eye on a sleeping infant at night.”

Here in the US the Y-cam Black SD can be found for less than $300.

Y-cam firmware update for full Apple Mac support

The latest firmware update for our Y-cam SD range has now been released and is available for download in the Downloads section of our global website.

This latest firmware, version 4.08, utilises the SD’s redesigned chipset, and allows us to bring full Mac compatibility to the entire SD range (utilising Quicktime for display of video with sound, and Flash for motion detection setup).

The power of using 3rd party plugins such as Quicktime and Flash allows the Y-cam to be less dependent on Microsoft’s ActiveX plugin, which has previously been required to enable and modify motion detection settings. The camera will now auto-detect which version of the camera software to use dependent on your system setup.

Updates in the SD settings also allow the introduction of an FTP video sending function, aswell as fixes to other minor software bugs.

These latest updates really brings the Y-cam to the front of the wireless network camera market – fully compatible with PC and Mac systems, excellent motion detection, built-in DVR (via SD card slot), wireless connectivity, and much more… The Y-cam SD is a truly all-in-one surveillance solution.

The firmware is a recommended update for all Y-cam SD users.
